How it works

Both labels are scaled to the same chosen weight. Each nutrient is multiplied by comparison grams divided by its label grams. Optional cost uses package price × comparison grams ÷ package food weight. Both prices must be in the selected currency.

Worked example

Food A lists 180 kcal per 40 g; food B lists 200 kcal per 50 g. At 100 g, the comparison is 450 kcal versus 400 kcal. A 400 g package priced at $4 costs $1 per 100 g.

Example values are illustrative, not nutrition data for a specific product.

Getting a useful result

Compare matching preparation states and edible quantities. Missing values are shown as unavailable, not zero. Price comparisons exclude preparation costs and waste. These results describe differences, not an overall health ranking or a serving recommendation.

Use the preparation state and serving basis shown on your label. The FDA Nutrition Facts guide explains how label nutrients relate to servings. Our calculator methodology documents the arithmetic and limitations.
